Rampant animal cruelty in our country necessitates stronger legal protection. Bicol University Animal Welfare Society (BU-AWS) promotes animal welfare through volunteerism, education, and community engagement. This website provides information about BU-AWS, reporting animal cruelty, and contacting us and other Bicol animal welfare organizations.

Animal cruelty in the Philippines is defined as any act that causes unnecessary pain, suffering, or distress to an animal. This includes physical abuse, neglect, and abandonment. The Animal Welfare Act of 1998 (RA 8485) is the primary legislation that governs animal treatment in the Philippines. This law prohibits various forms of cruelty, including physical abuse, neglect, abandonment, and acts that cause unnecessary pain or suffering
reporting to authorities for potential animal confiscation. Supporting local animal rescue organizations like TAARA and SARA through donations is also vital.

The "Connect and Care- BU-AWS" initiative champions the well-being of our furry friends through community education, awareness, and support. Focused on preventing rabies, promoting proper wound care, and ensuring regular deworming and vaccination, it aims to foster a healthier, more compassionate environment for pets and animals in need. Together, we can make a difference for the voiceless!
